February 7 - 8, 2025: Alluring Spaces — Landscape Paintings in Fused Glass - $450
In this all new 2-day painting technique class, I will share how I create my style of glass paintings, including the detail layering techniques I have found through trial and error to consistently and more reliably offer the best end-results. I will cover the importance of choosing your base glass selection(s), designing your paintings to work well in a desired display space, and conveying mood and depth through light and color, so that over 2-3 firings, you can develop a dramatic finished painting.
You will have the chance to choose from a selection of landscape photos and pre-selected sheet glasses for your background. In addition to creating your larger primary painting, you will also make a smaller piece from a supplied image using the same general technique, with recommended adjustments. The second project teaches some valuable lessons as to why adjusting and applying the same materials in a slightly different manner enables you to create equally successful paintings using less visual information due to the smaller glass “canvas”.
It is helpful, but not required for you to have some basic understanding or appreciation of landscape painting and some familiarity with using different grades of Frit for this class. I wish to help all who want to learn to paint, regardless of their painting experience. Please bring your own tools, including your favorite set of glass cutting/running/breaking tools, pair of nippers, liquid adhesive squeeze dispenser, and any Frit application tools that you are most comfortable using.
February 9, 2025: Multi-Layered & Color Focused Fused Glass Floral Display Art - $225
If this course sold out, no dates will be visible. If you need a hotel during the workshop, we've negotiated a discounted rate at Staybridge Suites
This new class offering is a creative one-day play-day workshop whereby you will create 2 rich, colorful floral display art pieces. I will be covering several methods I use to enhance floral elements including work-in-turns, shading, stacking specific glasses for extra visual pop, dimension & depth. We’ll start on your primary projects by building a thick floral display using colored glasses, hand pulled vitrograph stems and leaves, pre-slumped Oceanside Stringer stems, custom-made Murrini flowers, an assortment of Frit and a special treat trialing some of Rob Traylor’s beautiful and creative new Confetti shards!
You will build your primary floral field project in the 12.5” x 5” Creative Paradise/Patty Gray damming mold (included in the workshop fee at a special workshop price and yours to keep). During the class you will see my demonstrations (accompanied by written explanations) as to a few different approaches on how I suggest you then continue to build on your floral display to add depth and light play, re-firing that same piece in your new mold in your own kilns at home. The 2nd workshop project will be a smaller, undammed floral design using a slightly different approach to bringing wow factor in your floral fused glass displays. Both projects will be fired through their first round.
If this course sold out, no dates will be visible.
