Whether standing on its own, or placed in one of Big Glass Molds light fixtures, the glass formed on this mold is functional. Pointy end up and it is tall enough for a pillar candle and makes a great Christmas tree. Pointy end down and it slips into available light fixtures so you can show off your functional art with your own decorative style.
The art glass half cone you make will be approximately 14.5 in. tall x 7.5 in. wide x 3.75 in. deep when complete (depends, of course, on your starting glass size).
Its earthenware construction will provide years of use when handled carefully and kiln washed to prevent glass sticking. Technical info tab provides care and preparation guidance.
Click on any of the links below for some useful information and tips.
Glass Slumping :(adjust based on your kiln's performance or glass characteristics)
Apply kiln wash prior to slumping glass (follow kiln wash or shelf primer instructions). Do not reapply kiln wash until there are signs that it has deteriorated (it has chipped off or glass is starting to stick). Boron Nitride kiln wash is not recommended for our ceramic molds, but if you use that, follow boron nitride manufacturer's application instructions
Raise large end of mold 1/2 inch, raise pointed end of mold 3-1/2 inches so the top surface is horizonal and the glass doesn't slide off.
Firing Schedule:
250F/Hr to 1000, hold 5 min
250F/Hr to 1180, hold 45 min
250/Hr to 1215, hold 5 min
9999/Hr to 970, hold 45 min
80/Hr to 840, no hold
Allow kiln to cool naturally until 200F or below before opening kiln and removing glass
Adjust schedule as needed for your design and/or glass being used
