Morton Strong Line SL25 | Internal Steel Reinforcement Strip for Stained Glass
Say goodbye to heavy, distracting external support bars that compromise your artistic vision. The Morton Strong Line SL25 is a premium, high-utility internal reinforcement system engineered to add maximum structural integrity to your art glass panels from the inside out.
Crafted as a thin, high-tensile coppered steel strip, Strong Line builds structural stabilization directly into your design layout. At just 0.020" thick and 0.103" wide, its profile is specifically sized to match standard 1/8" (3mm) art glass thickness. This allows it to sit perfectly flush within a lead came channel or sandwich tightly between copper-foiled pieces. Once soldered or cemented in place, it becomes entirely invisible, preserving the clean lines of your original pattern while preventing future bowing, sagging, or hinge-joint failure.
Key Features & Benefits
- Invisible Structural Integrity: Hidden completely within your construction joints, allowing you to significantly reduce or entirely eliminate unsightly external reinforcing bars.
- Premium Coppered Steel Construction: Combining the rigid, anti-sagging power of steel with a specialized copper coating that bonds instantly and flawlessly with standard lead/tin solder.
- Perfect Multi-Technique Fit:
- For Copper Foil: Slides vertically between foiled pieces before soldering. Once both sides are soldered, the strip is completely hidden under the bead.
- For Lead Came: Fits smoothly directly inside the came channel along structural lines. (Note: Panel must be cemented after assembly to lock the strip and prevent twisting).
- Flexible Yet Rigid Control: Highly manageable and easy to curve or bend along your pattern lines, yet incredibly rigid along its vertical edge once locked into place.
- Dual-Side Capability: Can be used on a single side or run parallel along both sides of an internal joint for heavy-duty reinforcement on large, architectural-scale installations.
How to Properly Reinforce a Panel
For optimal structural stabilization, the reinforcement strip should run as one continuous piece. Secure one end deeply into the outer perimeter zinc or lead came channel on one side of the panel, weave it through your internal pattern joints horizontally or vertically across the span, and anchor it securely into the perimeter channel on the opposite side.
