Zinc Came: Adding Strength
Zinc came is a robust and versatile material widely used in stained glass work to provide additional strength and support. It is particularly valuable for constructing larger windows or panels where extra rigidity is required to prevent sagging or bowing over time.
Zinc came is often used in conjunction with lead came, particularly in larger projects. The lead came is used for the main design elements, while the zinc came provides additional support along the perimeter or within the panel.
When choosing zinc came, consider the size and complexity of your stained glass project, as well as the desired aesthetic. The right zinc came will ensure the longevity and structural integrity of your stained glass creations.
For best results, use this firing schedule:
1 - 500F/Hr to 500F and hold for 10 minutes
2 - 9999F/hour to 1385F and hold for 20 minutes
3 - 9999F/hour to 1610 and hold until pot has been emptied of your usable murrini/millefiori is coming out mostly clear
4 - 9999F/hour to 1700 and hold for 30 minutes pull as much of the glass that remains through the bottom -
5 - Turn kiln off and allow to cool to 100F or less before removing Vitrigraph Pot for the next round of pulling
