Take stained glass off the wall and into the space around you by creating a dimensional lampshade that comes alive with light. In this workshop, students will design and construct a four-panel geometric glass shade tailored for a custom hanging pendant light fixture, exploring how precise angles, color, transparency, and structure transform when illuminated. The finished piece becomes both a functional light fixture and a sculptural expression of your design.
Students will learn the techniques behind successful three-dimensional construction, including pattern development, precision assembly, structural planning, and refined finishing methods. This workshop builds the confidence and control needed to create durable, dimensional stained glass pieces beyond the traditional flat panel.
This workshop is designed for students with prior stained glass experience who are comfortable with glass cutting, foiling, and soldering. Fundamental techniques will be reviewed with an intermediate-level focus.
All materials are provided. If you already own stained glass tools, feel free to bring your preferred studio equipment, including your favorite glass cutting & breaking tools.
Kristin Culotta is a stained glass artist and educator based in Camas, Washington, teaching workshops for students across the United States. Influenced by Bauhaus, Art Deco, and geometric abstraction, her work emphasizes form, structure, and the inherent qualities of glass. Color, texture, and light are treated as essential design elements, resulting in a modern visual language.
Kristin holds a BFA in Fine Art Photography from California State University, Long Beach. Her background in photography & experimental techniques continues to inform her approach to stained glass, influencing her exploration of composition, contrast, and the relationship between light and form.
Since discovering stained glass in 2013, she has built a full-time artistic practice rooted in contemporary design and meticulous craftsmanship. After leaving the Southern California concrete jungle for the forests of the Pacific Northwest, she established a studio tucked among towering trees and abundant wildlife, where she creates original work, specializes in custom commissions, and develops workshops that emphasize thoughtful design, technical skill, and confidence through creation.
